BATCH COOKING WITH QUINOA

Are you tired of spending all day in the kitchen and never achieving a truly complete and balanced meal?

Don't worry!

Batch cooking is a new trend that entails cooking once a week to eat well every day.

Often, due to our weekly schedules and routines, we don't have the time that we would like to cook a balanced menu each day for ourselves and for our family, resorting to ready meals of poor nutritional quality or preparing very basic menus that do not provide the nutrients that we need.

If this becomes a regular dynamic, we run the risk of suffering from nutritional deficiencies, along with a loss of energy, vitality and health.

Quinoa, combined with the concept of batch cooking, makes life very easy.

  • Simply choose the day of the week that best suits you to cook up a few recipes.
  • Think about the basic ingredients that you need in the fridge for the whole week and write a shopping list.
  • You should include:
    • A whole grain. Quinoa.
    • A protein. Pulses. Buy high quality pulses that have already been cooked. And make sure you always have a packet of tempeh, tofu or seitan on hand in the fridge.
    • You can cook a creamy vegetable soup and a few steamed vegetables, for example.
    • Make sure you have plenty of nuts and seeds and some fresh fruit for the whole week.

Cook the quinoa following our instructions.

It is important for the quinoa to be well cooked and dry, with no water or humidity so that it keeps better in the fridge.

When it has cooled to room temperature, it can be placed in an airtight container –glass is ideal. You can use a recycled glass jar. It should be clean and odourless. Fill the container as much as possible to reduce the amount of oxygen.

It can be kept in the fridge for 5 days.

If you want to freeze it, the best option is to use a freezer bag, as the quinoa will remain loose and it will be easier to defrost in portions at a later date, to be added to a soup, salad, sautéed vegetables, etc.

The quinoa kept in the fridge can be used for breakfast, by adding it to creamed cereals with vegetable milk, seeds and nuts. At midday it can be added to a soup, a vegetable stir fry or a salad. And, of course, it's a must for a light and healthy dinner.
